The basic cutting philosophy of titanium

The widespread use of titanium clearly indicates that more and more people now acknowledge the fact that there are several advantages of using titanium in different industries. Though the popularity of titanium is increasing with every passing day but there are some considerations for those who have just decided to switch to this lustrous metal.

The most important thing here is about the metal cutting. Metal cutting is one of the crucial factors considered at the time of establishing titanium machining techniques. When you will delve more into the details, you will find that one of the most commonly used cutting philosophies is heavy cutting.

Heavy cutting is the method used to cut this metal with high torque and horsepower. The whole process is actually about chunking out the larger volumes of metals. Since a large amount of horsepower along with torque is used in this process so the ultimate goal of high metal removal rates is achieved without much ado.

This method is used on large scales and often used for roughing operations. Although this cutting method is pretty much the norm but there is something which is not desired by manufacturers. This thing is about sacrificing the speed in finishing operations and tool life as well. This is for the obvious reason as when spindle is geared by the high horsepower it has to result in lower finishing speed.

The importance of heavy cutting is immense as it allows manufacturers to bring this metal in a better form. Though there are disadvantages of using this but it has to be used nevertheless.
