I am not sure how to handle some of the students in my class. It seems that they take turns wearing the same offensive t shirts that they know is not appropriate for school. I have explained it to them numerous times and now will have to call their parents to come in and talk about the matter. I understand that the kids think that these kinds of funny t shirts are a great way to express themselves. I just do not think that they are thinking through what getting expelled would do for their future.
After calling two of the parents of the students, I can see that I am going to get nowhere. The first set of parents both came in wearing offensive t shirts, and I guess that they sell them in their store. Since they get them at cost, it is a cheap t shirt for them to buy for their son. The second set of parents told me that times have changed and that I should just look past the funny t shirts and focus on the students and their grades and behavior.
I am very frustrated with the whole situation and am not sure how to deal with it. I will have to contact someone in the administration building to ask for help, which is what I was trying to avoid doing all along.
My mother in law told us that she wanted a new iron door installed on her house from all of her kids for her birthday. I had never heard such a strange request, and wondered how in the world we were going to pull it off. My husband is the only boy in his family, and only two of his three sisters are married. Those same two sisters and their families live about three hours away so having them come and help install an iron door was a little out of the question.
I started telling this story to my boss and he told me that he knew of a company that not only sold iron doors, but also installed them. I guess that they had installed some iron gates for him a few years ago and they did a great job. He highly recommended that I call them and just price out what it was that my mother in law wanted.
After talking with the company that had installed by boss’s iron gates, I felt really great about the whole iron door birthday gift. I was confident that each of the kids could afford their share of purchasing the door and having it installed. This was going to actually turn out to be one of the easiest birthday gifts that I had ever given.
